Since becoming part of Carnival Village in 2008 (with a lease for at least 20 years), this stunning Grade II listed building in the heart of London’s carnival area has begun an exciting and historic life, alongside The Yaa Centre – our nearby sister venue.
Over its colourful history, the venue has seen high profile artists such as The Clash, Coldplay, Courtney Pine, Damon Albarn, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones and Santana as well as mainstream and local corporate events. Relaunched under the banner of Carnival Village, it has hosted artists such as Aqualung and Finley Quaye, and staged the Portobello Film Festival, the Calypso Tent (the traditional precursor to African-Caribbean carnivals) as well as a variety of other events.
There’s so much beyond the façade: Theatre, Dance Studio (a number of weekly arts schools) and other bookable performance, gallery and conference spaces. Since becoming the jewel in our crown, the venue has been revitalised to include a newly installed restaurant and bars
