Referred by some as ‘The Capital Of The North’, the city of Manchester has seen a lot of change since the Common Wealth Games were hosted there in 2002.

Manchester is well known around the world for its influence on music, both as a birth place for many acts and genres as well as a city for music acts to gain exposure. The influence of Manchester on the UK’s music scene is perhaps best illustrated with the explosion of Factory Records and The Hacienda club in the 1980’s, Manchester quickly became a home for great bands with the emerging of acts such a Oasis, The Verve, Take That, Jamiroquai and The Chemical Brothers.

Manchester also plays host to a range of over 500 nightlife, restaurants and live music venues including the 21,000 seater Manchester Evening News Arena; which is a more popular indoor arena than Madison Square Garden and The O2 Arena. Manchester also offers a lot outside of its music and nightlife for those looking to enjoy other forms of culture with venues such as the Halle Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, The Palace Theatre, the Dancehouse and Library Theatre are some examples.
