Newcastle sits along the river Tyne in the North East of England. Perhaps best known for it’s football team and the unique emblem of Newcastle; The Angel Of The North, Newcastle has gone through a makeover in the last few years with new architecture including the Gateshead Millennium Bridge, contrasting to the historic Tyne Bridge perhaps reflecting the juxtaposition between the old and new Newcastle.
As well as the new architecture, Newcastle also has several shopping areas including The Eldon Square Shopping Centre, Northumberland Street, Elson Garden, Monument Hall, Newgate Centre, and Central Arcade. Newcastle has always been well known for its expanse of nightlife and restaurants around the Bigg Market, Quayside, Collingwood Street, Neville Street, the Central Station area and Osborne Road as well as “The Gate” which incorporates a number of venues including a cinema. Newcastle has an ever emerging gay scene with venues mostly located in the “pink triangle” in the Times Square area of the city.
Newcastle is also home to many theatres including the Theatre Royal on Grey Street, music venues such as the Metro Radio Arena, Newcastle City Halland Carling Academy and also hosts many festivals throughout the year including The Beer Festival, Chinese New Year celebrations in China Town.
