Worlds first ‘Eco Nightclub’ to open soon

London will see the opening of the worlds first eco-nightclub this month in a bid to help with global warming.

The nightclub in Pentoville Road, Islington North London is called Surya, which is Sanskrit for Sun God and is the dream turned reality of wealthy property developer Andrew Charalambous. Mr Charalambous has invested £1 million of his own fortune into the venue which includes a high tech dancefloor which creates electricity when danced on which Mr Charalambous belived will help the venue be greener as he stated that “we estimate that if you had loads of clubbers dancing vigorously it would provide 60 per cent of the club’s energy needs”.

Furthermore, the venue will contribute to the local areas power requirements as Mr Charalambous states that “with the wind turbines and solar power we aim to provide the energy needs of 14 to 20 local residents. We are the first free energy-donating business in the world.”

However although Surya is being heralded as the first eco-nightclub, The Sustainable Dance Club (SDC) in Holland claims that Surya cannot not claim to be eco friendly as its is not just the venue but the entire organistaion which should be enviromentally friendly.

Either way, Surya could be the blue print upon which similar venues are designed in the future in the worlds fight against global warming.
