Part With A Pound and Help London
The Night No One Stays In
Mayor Boris Johnson supports brand new charity campaign inviting more than 1 million Londoners to PART WITH A POUND on Saturday 3rd October Calling all Londoners…
On Saturday 3 October London for London is uniting the capital by inviting anyone stepping out to enjoy its clubs, bars and pubs to part with a pound to help combat anti-social behaviour amongst young people. No special venue, no special effort, no guilty conscience - the new charity hopes to mobilise 1 million donors by asking people to do what they do anyway, enjoy our great city’s nightlife!
The number of venues supporting the charity is forever growing, from major brands including Novus Leisure venues and the O’Neill’s pub chain, to clubs / busy bars including Cargo (Cantaloupe Group), Ministry of Sound, Match bars (Match Bar Group) as well as some of London’s hottest style bars like Maddox, Boujis and Whisky Mist.
Where does my money go? Each year London for London will galvanise the city to raise funds and awareness for issues that affect the capital and its residents. 2009 is all about raising awareness of violence amongst young people in the capital and every penny of every pound raised will go towards 3 organisations working to combat it:
• Kids Company: A charity that provides practical, emotional and educational support to vulnerable inner-city children and young people.
• Volunteer Police Cadets: A new initiative organised through the Metropolitan Police which supports youths aged 14-20yrs, including those that maybe subject to social exclusion.
• Help a London Child: 95.8 Capital Radio FM’s charity which funds a variety of projects supporting children and young people experiencing abuse, poverty, homelessness, disability and illness.
What Boris says…“London for London is fundraising for three great causes that make an immense difference to young people across the capital. I encourage everybody who’s out and about on Saturday October 3 to help play a part in tackling youth crime by digging deep and giving generously. I truly hope London for London is a great success.”
Whose idea is it… London for London is a brand new charity set up by 2 young Londoners; Ryan Kohn a 25 year old property developer and 26 year old social entrepreneur Laura Fraser. After watching last year’s award winning film, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly showing an awe inspiring insight into the strength of the human spirit, the two friends conspired to come up with an idea that would actively engage Londoners to make a positive difference to the city they love. This year they have decided to focus on violence amongst young people, an issue that resonates with thousands of Londoners no matter what their background, and approach it in a unique way that will truly unite the city.
London for London relies on the capital’s bars, clubs and pubs to get behind the campaign.
