New pint glasses to be tested
Nearly 87,000 attacks using glasses took place last year costing an estimated £100 million in NHS, Police and Court costs.
In an attempt to reduce this problem the government intend to pilot a two new designs to replace the exisiting pint glasses which don’t shatter into tiny shards. Home Secretary Alan Johnson said: “While this is never going to be the only answer to preventing violence, it is an important step forward which could also provide retailers with a preferable alternative to plastic glasses.”
