Product Review - Chang Beer

Chang Beer

The word Chang translates as elephant - an animal that has played a major part in Thailands rich history. It is revered in religion and among royalty and has helped cultivate the land that now produces Changs unique flavour.

Chang beer has been awarded the Gold Medallion at the International Beer Competition in Australia and within four years from launch was the number 1 selling beer in Thailand.

CITY DRINKING Review

The bottle for Chang Beer is symbolic of the influence and importance of Thailand to this beer. The combination of red, gold and green are common colours found in Thai products and the style, arrangment and depth of colour demonstrate a real beauty and elegance many would relae to Thailand. The image of the 2 elephants is a clear illustration of the Chang brand.

The beer is a deep golden colour and there is a invocative aroma of hopp filled beer. Chang has a fruity tone that comes through which is slightly short lived as it is then slightly neutralised by the vanilla introduced into Chang.

Chang Beer is unapologetic in it’s flavour, it doesnt attempt to be a beer/lager or a concoction of beer and bitter. Instead it has a compelling flavour that comprises of a textured mix of earthy, bitter, strong flavour, with the fruity, slightly tart background that comes through in the aftertaste. A long length in the beer helps the fruity resonance quality of Chang develop, which prevents it from suffering the dry, raw aftertaste of some beers. The popularity of Chang is understandable as it has the punch and rounded bitterness of a good strong beer, however it has the abilty to maintain such deep nourishing flavour without being overpowering.
