Product Review - Fentimans Tonic Water
Fentimans Tonic Water
In 1905 Thomas Fentiman, and iron puddler from Cleckheaton, was approached by a fellow tradesman for a loan. A deal was struck and some security was provided - in this case a recipe for botanically brewed ginger beer. The loan was never repaid, so Thomas became the owner of a unique and rather original recipe for success. Originally, Fetimans Botanically Brewed Beverages were delivered in stone jars called “Grey Hens” and fermentation continued through door-to-door delivery. Thanks to Thomas' Fentiman's great-grandson, Eldon Robson, beautiful glass bottles have taken over the stone jars and pasturisation has given our natural sodas a longer life. Today, every Fentimans Beverage is still made in the time-honoured tradition by brewing and fermenting herbs and milled roots over seven days. (This compares to hours production time for typical soft drinks.) Under the watchful eyes of Thomas Fentiman’s faithful prize Alsatian, Fearless, who still adorns the labels, our trademark recipes contain the unfiltered goodness of their natural ingredients. So upending the bottle before enjoying is always in order for a fuller, more invigorating taste that is ‘once tasted, never forgotten’. (Source: http://www.goodnessdirect.co.uk)
Made using traditional Fentimans methods and using only 100% natural ingredients, Fentimans mixers are available in 125ml bespoke glass bottles.
CITY DRINKING Review
The bottle is perfectly reflective of the tonic water. simple, traditional and unique.
The scent that floats from the tonic water is uniquely aromatic, there are floral tones that come through with an unexpected sweet citrus quality.
The flavour is subtle and with the addition of the citrus element is deeply refreshing and would be ideal as an effervescent addition to any cocktail or used as a mixer in a spirit. The light nature of flavour and bubbly texture means that the tonic won’t overtake from the flavour of whatever you mix it with but will succeed in lightening and help carry the flavour of your chosen drink around your mouth and lengthen the flavour as a result of the unintrusive effervescence which slowly disperses and fades.
When drunk on it’s own Fentimans Tonic Water makes a great alternatve to something such as a lemonade/sprite and with its floral sweet qualities it doesn’t suffer from the synthetic, overly acidic affect of some other tonic waters and the bottles coming in 125ml are a great idea as you dont waste any of the tonic when only making a few drinks.
