Stella and Leffe running low
Stocks of 2 of Belgiums famous beers; Stella Artois and Leffe are apparently running low.
The short supply is apparently down to an industrial dispute over jon cuts which has led to a week long blockade preventing any deliveries leaving the Leuven headquarters of Anheuser-Busch InBev, the world’s biggest brewing company. Belgian supermarkets and bars are reporting low stocks as unions protest against the removal of 250 of the 2700 jobs in Belgium. However this may be good news for the other 125 other breweries in Belgium which produce around 800 beers, with special, limited edition beers taking that number up to 8,000 beers.
Anheuser-Busch InBev announced this week that it plans to cut 800 jobs across western Europe, 10% of its total 8,000 workforce in the region. The loss of jobs is reportedl to be due to a fall in beer sales, with more job losses across Belgium, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. After the announcement of the plans, protest took place at the brewery & headquarters in Leuven, Belgium. The company Inbev was formed in 2004 when Belgian Interbrew merged with Brazilian company AmBev and became Anheuser-Busch InBev in 2008 when Belgium-based InBev bought Anheuser-Busch, the owner of Budweiser, and the largest brewer in the US as reported by CITY DRINKING.
