Product Review - St Germain
St Germain
St-Germain, a beautifully crafted, French elderflower liqueur made from 100% fresh, handpicked elderflowers from the foothills of the French Alps in the traditional French style - a process which has been used by the finest liqueur-makers for centuries. Available in limited quantities, each bottle of St-Germain is numbered and marked with the vintage year, which reflects the year in which the flowers were harvested.
St-Germain can be enjoyed straight or on ice, but is ideal in cocktails, and mixes well with white wine, champagne, or gin.
Signature Drink - The St-Germain
Glass: Collins (12oz)
Garnish: Lime slice
2 shot(s) Sauvignon Blanc wine
1½ shot(s) St-Germain liqueur
Top up with Soda water
Method: POUR wine and then St-Germain into ice-filled glass. TOP with soda, lightly stir and serve with straws.
The clean floral nose has hints of pear, peach and grapefruit zest. The palate is syrupy but not cloying and is wonderfully fresh with rich elderflower and tropical fruit balanced by subtle lemon zest acidity.
St-Germain is 20% A.B.V liqueur
CITY DRINKING Review
The bottle for St Germain is as strikingly beautiful, unique and stylish as the drink itself. Slim and ridged the bottles design is simple with blue labelling and a distinct embossed turquoise and bronze lid making the bottle stand out whilst maintaining a clarity so that you can see the liquid inside.
The simplicity with punch effect of the bottles design is mirrored once you open the bottle with the sweet perfume of elderflower filling your nose and instantly making your mouth water. The flavour is smooth, sweet with a sticky finish. However the lasting sticky texture is not unpleasant but instead helps the long finish of elderflower, with essence of other summer, citrus flavours such as pear and a clean, crisp aftertaste. This compelxity of flavour which leaves a clear finish reiterates the clarity in design of St Germain not jst in appearanc ebut also in flavour.
The delicious, fruity nature of St Germain whilst maintaining a clear fragrance and flavour of elderflower and other fruits makes St Germain the ideal drink to have on it’s own or on the rocks. However, we tried it with various other drinks including vodka, gin, champagne and a well known naturally carbonated apple drink and in every taste test the St Germain gave every drink a fuller flavour, without being overpowering making each drink more interesting and lighter in flavour causing your tastebuds to tingle. Another great thing about St Germain is the flexibilty of St Germain and with a little imagination St Germain could be the ideal base for cocktails.
